Erica speaks to the media for the first time
in support of her mother's medical cannabis use.
This speech was prepared and given by Angel Raich’s 16 year old daughter Erica at a press conference after the United States Supreme Court oral argument for Ashcroft v. Raich on November 29, 2004.
"Before my mother began using medical cannabis, she wasn’t able to take care of me and my brother. My mother does not use cannabis because she wants to, she uses it because it is a necessity and without it she will die. Medical cannabis helps patients like my mother – patients with cancer, M.S. and other life-threatening diseases – lead a healthier life. Give all medical cannabis patients a chance, and let them live. I ask you, please do not take my mother away."
Written November 28, 2004 the day before Erica's mom's medical cannabis case was heard in the United States Supreme Court.
Letter to Ashcroft & the DEA from Angel's daughter.
My mom is really sick and disabled. This leads me to think very sad thoughts, because I see my mom struggle with her health every day. Now, miracles happen ,whether you like it or not. That’s what I see, I see a miracle with medical cannabis. Written April 2003, by Erica at 14 years old.
